Psalm 1 Prayed

Psalm 1 Prayed
Becoming more like Jesus

Lord Jesus, during the days of your life on earth,
you offered up prayers and petitions
            with loud cries and tears
to the one who could save you from death,
            and you were heard
            because of your reverent submission.
For you were the blessed man,
who did not walk in the counsel
            of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers,
yet many tax collectors and “sinners”
came and ate with you and your disciples.
Your delight was in the law of your Father,
and on his law you meditated
            day and night.
You were like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and your leaf did not wither.
            Whatever you did prospered.

   But I am not so!
By nature, I am like chaff
            that the wind blows away.
   Without your grace,
I would not be able stand in the judgment,
nor in the assembly of the righteous in heaven.

Lord Jesus, you watch over the way of the
            righteous,
   Make me righteous,
for the way of the wicked will perish.
For God made you, who had no sin,
            to be sin for me,
so that I might become the righteousness of God.

Only then will I have the strength
not to walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
Only then will my delight be in
            the law of the Lord,
and on your word the Bible,
will I meditate day and night.
Only then will I be like a tree
            planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Only then will what I do prosper,
for I will be storing up for myself
            treasures in heaven.

Psalm 1

Heb. 5:7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
1   Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel
            of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
Matt. 9:10  While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples.
2     But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates
            day and night.
3    He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
            Whatever he does prospers.
4   Not so the wicked!
            They are like chaff
            that the wind blows away.
5   Therefore the wicked
will not stand in the judgment,
     nor sinners in the assembly
            of the righteous.
6    For the LORD watches over the way of the
            righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
2Cor. 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Matt. 6:20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…
