Psalm 27 Prayed

Psalm 27 Prayed
Finding delight in Jesus
during spiritual struggles

   O Lord Jesus, you are my light and my salvation—
            whom shall I fear?
   You are the stronghold of my life—
            of whom shall I be afraid?
   When the Evil One advances against me
            to devour my flesh,
   when my spiritual enemies and my foes attack me,
            they will stumble and fall.
   Though a demonic legion besiege me,
            my heart will not fear;
   I will remain in my right mind,
            and they will be afraid;
    though spiritual warfare break out against me,
            even then will I be confident.

   One thing I ask of you, O Lord Jesus,
            this is what I seek:
   that I may dwell in your house, O Lord,
            all the days of my life,
   to gaze upon your beauty
            and to seek you in your temple.
   Let me see the light of the gospel;
            which is your glory, O Christ,
            for you are the image of God.
   O Father God, make your light shine in my heart,
            to give me the light of the knowledge
            of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
   For in the day of trouble
            you will keep me safe in your dwelling;
   you will hide me in the shelter of your tabernacle
            and set me high upon a rock.
   Then my head will be exalted
            above the spiritual enemies who surround me;
   In your tabernacle will I sacrifice
            with shouts of joy;
            I will sing and make music to you, O Lord.

   Sometimes you seem so distant,
            my prayers dry up, and I feel far from you.
   Hear my voice when I call, O Lord;
            be merciful to me and answer me.
   My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
            Your face, Lord Jesus, I will seek.
   Do not hide your face from me,
            do not turn your servant away in anger;
            you have been my helper.

   When I doubt and want to cry out;
            “Do not reject me or forsake me,”,
   Remind me that you have promised me this:
   “Never will I leave you;
            never will I forsake you.”
            For you are God my Saviour.
   Though my father and mother forsake me,
            you will receive me.
   Teach me your way, O Lord;
            lead me in a straight path
            because of my oppressors.
   Do not turn me over to the desire
            of my spiritual foes,
   for the false witnesses of my doubts
            rise up against me, breathing out violence.

   Nevertheless, I can still be confident of this:
            I will see the goodness of the Lord
            in the land of the living.
   I will wait for you, O Lord.
            Make me strong and help me take heart.
   I will wait for you, O Lord.

Psalm 27
Of David.

1   The LORD is my light and my salvation—
            whom shall I fear?
     The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
            of whom shall I be afraid?
2    When evil men advance against me
            to devour my flesh,
      when my enemies and my foes attack me,
            they will stumble and fall.
3a    Though an army besiege me,
            my heart will not fear;
Mark 5:15 … they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
3b though war break out against me,
            even then will I be confident.
4   One thing I ask of the LORD,
            this is what I seek:
     that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
            all the days of my life,
     to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
            and to seek him in his temple.
2Cor. 4:4 … see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
2Cor. 4:6 For God… made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
5   For in the day of trouble
            he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
     he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
            and set me high upon a rock.
6   Then my head will be exalted
            above the enemies who surround me;
     at his tabernacle will I sacrifice
            with shouts of joy;
            I will sing and make music to the LORD.

7  Hear my voice when I call, O LORD;
            be merciful to me and answer me.
8  My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
            Your face, LORD, I will seek.
9a  Do not hide your face from me,
            do not turn your servant away in anger;
            you have been my helper.

     Do not reject me or forsake me,
Heb. 13:5 … God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
9b            O God my Saviour.
10  Though my father and mother forsake me,
            the LORD will receive me.
11  Teach me your way, O LORD;
            lead me in a straight path
            because of my oppressors.
12   Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
            for false witnesses rise up against me,
            breathing out violence.

13   I am still confident of this:
            I will see the goodness of the LORD
            in the land of the living.
14   Wait for the LORD;
            be strong and take heart
            and wait for the LORD.
