Psalm 17 Prayed

Psalm 17 Prayed
Confidence in the gospel,
delivery from sin and Satan

   Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea;
            listen to my cry.

   Give ear to my prayer—
            it does not rise from deceitful lips.
   My vindication has come from you;
            Your eyes have shown me what is right.

   You, O Father, have given me a seal
            of the righteousness that comes by faith.
   A promise that comes by faith,
            so that it may be by grace,
            and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s
            offspring.
   You chose to credit me with righteousness—
            simply because I believe in you,
            who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
   You delivered him over to death for my sins,
            and you raised him to life for my justification.

   Though you probe my heart
            and examine me at night,
            though you test me, you will find nothing;
    For you made Jesus who had no sin
            to be sin for me,
            so that in him I might become the
            righteousness of God.
   Therefore I have resolved that my mouth
            will not sin.

   As for the deeds of others—
            by the word of your lips;
            by the Word of God in the Bible,
   I have kept myself
            from the ways of the violent.
   My steps have held to your paths;
            my feet have not slipped.

   I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
            give ear to me and hear my prayer.
   Show the wonder of your great love,
            for you save by your right hand
            those who take refuge in you from their foes.
   Keep me as the apple of your eye;
            hide me in the shadow of your wings
   from the Wicked One who assails me,
            from my mortal enemy of sin
            which surrounds me.

   They close up their callous hearts,
            and their mouths speak with arrogance.
   They have tracked me down,
            they now surround me,
            with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
   They are like a lion hungry for prey,
            like a great lion crouching in cover.
    For my enemy the devil prowls around
            like a roaring lion
            looking for someone to devour.

    Rise up, O Lord Jesus, confront them,
            bring them down;
            rescue me from the Wicked One
   by your sword;
            the sword of the Spirit,
            which is the Word of God.
    For in you, O Christ,
            all the fullness of the Deity lives
            in bodily form,
   and you have given me fullness in you,
            O Christ;
            you are the head over every power
            and authority.
   You have made me alive together with you,
            You forgave me all my sins,
            having cancelled the written code,
             with its regulations, that was against me,
            and that stood opposed to me.
   You taken it away,
            nailing it to the cross.
   Having disarmed principalities and powers,
            you made a public spectacle of them,
            triumphing over them by the cross.
   O Lord Jesus by your hand save me
            from such “men,”
            from “men” of this world
            whose reward is in this life.

   Only you can satisfy the hunger
            of those you cherish;
            you can make our children have plenty,
   Help us find our treasure in you,
            the satisfaction of the craving of our souls,
            so that we will store up this wealth
            for our children.
   And I—in the righteousness you covered me with,
            I will see your face;
            when I awake in death,
   I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness
            in the person of Jesus, forever.

Psalm 17
A prayer of David.

1   Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea;
            listen to my cry.
            Give ear to my prayer—
            it does not rise from deceitful lips.
2   May my vindication come from you;
            may your eyes see what is right.

Rom. 4:11  …a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith… 16  Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring... 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.  25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

3a   Though you probe my heart
            and examine me at night,
            though you test me, you will find nothing;
2Cor. 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
3b   I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.

4   As for the deeds of men—
            by the word of your lips
            I have kept myself
            from the ways of the violent.
5   My steps have held to your paths;
            my feet have not slipped.

6   I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
            give ear to me and hear my prayer.
7   Show the wonder of your great love,
            you who save by your right hand
            those who take refuge in you
            from their foes.
8    Keep me as the apple of your eye;
            hide me in the shadow of your wings
9   from the wicked who assail me,
            from my mortal enemies
            who surround me.

10  They close up their callous hearts,
            and their mouths speak with arrogance.
11   They have tracked me down,
            they now surround me,
            with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12   They are like a lion hungry for prey,
             like a great lion crouching in cover.
1Pet. 5:8  Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
13  Rise up, O LORD, confront them,
            bring them down;
            rescue me from the wicked by your sword.
Eph. 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Col. 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,  10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

Col. 2:13 …God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,  14 having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.  15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

14   O LORD, by your hand save me
            from such men,
            from men of this world whose reward
            is in this life.
      You still the hunger of those you cherish;
            their sons have plenty,
            and they store up wealth for their children.

15   And I—in righteousness I will see your face;
            when I awake, I will be satisfied with
               seeing your likeness.
