Psalm 77 Prayed

Psalm 77 Prayed
Praying for the God of miracles
 to act once again

   I cry out to you, O God, for help;
            I cry out to you to hear me.
   I see the destitution of your people,
            the irrelevance of your Church in this land, O
            Lord.
   I am in distress, so I seek you, O Lord;
            at night I stretch out untiring hands
            and my soul refuses to be comforted.
   I remembered you, O God, and I groan;
            I muse, and my spirit grows faint.

   You keep my eyes from closing;
            I am too troubled to speak.
   As I think about the former days,
            the years of long ago;
   As I think about how once you blessed the Church
            in this nation,
            how you sent revival to your people;
   As I remembered my songs in the night.
            My heart muses and my spirit inquires:

   “Will the you reject your Church forever O Lord?
            Will you never show your favour again?
   Has your unfailing love vanished forever?
            Has your promise failed for all time?
   Have you forgotten to be merciful, O God?
            Have you in anger withheld your
            compassion?”

   So I pray, “To this I will appeal:
            the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
   I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
            yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
   I will meditate on all your works
            and consider all your mighty deeds.

   Your ways, O God, are holy.
            What god is so great as our God?
   You are the God who performs miracles;
            you display your power among the peoples.

   In the Old Testament you delivered Israel.
   With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,
            the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
   You are the Lord, the God who brought them
            out of Egypt,
            out of the land of slavery.
   The waters of the Red Sea saw you, O God,
            the waters saw you and writhed;
            the very depths were convulsed.
   The clouds poured down water,
            the skies resounded with thunder;
            your arrows flashed back and forth.
   Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,
            your lightning lit up the world;
            the earth trembled and quaked.
   Your path led through the Red Sea,
            your way through the mighty waters,
            though your footprints were not seen.
   You led your people like a flock
            by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

   In the New Testament you delivered your Church.,
            you led your people out of slavery to sin.
   Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited
            to the people of Israel by you, O God.
   You did miracles, wonders and signs
            among them through him.
   The Holy Spirit was upon him,
            because you anointed him to preach good news
            to the poor.
   You sent him to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
            and recovery of sight for the blind
            to release the oppressed,
            to proclaim the year of your favour.
   And so the blind received sight, the lame walked,
            those who have leprosy were cured,
    the deaf heard, the dead were raised,
            and the good news was preached to the poor.
   Through the Spirit of holiness
            you declared him with power
   to be the Son of God
            by his resurrection from the dead.

   This salvation, which was first announced by the
            Lord Jesus,
            was confirmed to us by the apostles who heard
            him.
   You also testified to it
            by signs, wonders and various miracles,
            and gifts of the Holy Spirit,
            distributed according to your will.
   Everybody living in Jerusalem knew
            they did outstanding miracles,
   and even the rulers, elders and teachers of the law
            could not deny it.

   Send forth your power to your people once again.
            Deliver us by your outstretched hand once
            more.
   Vindicate the name of Jesus
            and shut the mouths of scoffers.
   Prove your power, and revive your Church again
            with the power of the Holy Spirit.
