Psalm 90 Prayed

Psalm 90 Prayed
The Church in repentance

   Lord Jesus, you have been our dwelling place
            throughout all generations.
   Before the mountains were born
            or you brought forth the earth and the world,
            from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
   In you we live and move
            and have our being,
   because for us there is but one God, the Father,
            from you all things came
            and for you we live;
   and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ,
            through you all things came
            and through you we live.

   You turn people back to dust,
            saying, “Return to dust, you children of
            humanity.”
   For a thousand years in your sight
            are like a day that has just gone by,
            or like a watch in the night.
   Yet you are not slow in keeping your promise,
            as some understand slowness.
   You are patient with us,
            not wanting anyone to perish,
            but everyone to come to repentance.
   You sweep people away in the sleep of death,
            for the wages of sin is death;
   They are like the new grass of the morning—
            though in the morning it springs up new,
            by evening it is dry and withered.
   But your gift to us is eternal life
            in Christ Jesus our Lord,
   and we have been born again,
            not of perishable seed, but imperishable,
            through the living and enduring word of God.

   Yet we are consumed by your anger
            and terrified by your indignation.
   You have set our iniquities before you,
            our secret sins in the light of your presence.
   For we have forsaken our first love.
            We remember the height from which we have
            fallen.
   We repent, and want to do
            the things we did at first.

   All our days pass away under your wrath;
            we finish our years with a moan.
   We have a reputation of being alive,
            but we are dead.
   The length of our days is seventy years—
            or eighty, if we have the strength;
   yet their span is but trouble and sorrow,
            for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
   So waken us up!
            Strengthen what remains and is about to die,
            for our deeds are not complete in your sight, O
            God.
   Help us to remember, therefore,
            what we have received and heard in the Bible,
            and to obey it and repent.

   Who knows the power of your anger?
            For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due
            you.
   For you hold the seven stars in your right hand
            and walk among the seven golden lampstands:
   You are  the First and the Last,
            you died and came to life again.
            You have the sharp, double-edged sword.
   You are the Son of God,
            your eyes are like blazing fire
            and your feet are like burnished bronze.
   You hold the seven spirits of God
            and the seven stars.
   You are holy and true,
            and you hold the key of David.
   What you open no one can shut,
            and what you shut no one can open.
   You are the Amen, the faithful and true witness,
            the ruler of God’s creation.
   Those whom you love
            you rebuke and discipline.
   So teach us to number our days aright,
            that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

   Relent, O Lord Jesus! How long will it be?
            Have compassion on your servants.
   Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
            that we may sing for joy and be glad all our
            days.
   May your love compel us,
            because we are convinced that you died for all,
            therefore all died.
   And you died for all,
            that we who live should no longer live for
            ourselves, but for you,
   because you died for us
            and you were raised again.
   So help us to love one another,
            even as you have loved us.
   By this all people will know that we are your
            disciples,
            if we love one another.
   Make us glad for as many days as you have
            afflicted us,
            for as many years as we have seen trouble.
   May your deeds be shown to your servants,
            your splendour to our children.

   May the favour of the Lord our God rest
            upon us;
            establish the work of our hands for us—
            yes, establish the work of our hands.

Psalm 90
A prayer of Moses the man of God.

1   Lord, you have been our dwelling place
            throughout all generations.
2   Before the mountains were born
            or you brought forth the earth and the
            world,
            from everlasting to everlasting you are
            God.
Acts 17:28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’
1Cor. 8:6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
3   You turn men back to dust,
            saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men.”
4   For a thousand years in your sight
            are like a day that has just gone by,
            or like a watch in the night.
2Pet. 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
5a   You sweep men away in the sleep of death;
Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death…
5b            they are like the new grass of the
            morning—
6   though in the morning it springs up new,
            by evening it is dry and withered.
Rom. 6:23 …but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1Pet. 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
7   We are consumed by your anger
            and terrified by your indignation.
8   You have set our iniquities before you,
            our secret sins in the light of your
            presence.
Rev. 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. 5 Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.
9   All our days pass away under your wrath;
            we finish our years with a moan.
Rev. 3:1 … I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
10   The length of our days is seventy years—
            or eighty, if we have the strength;
       yet their span is but trouble and sorrow,
            for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
Rev. 3:2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent.

11   Who knows the power of your anger?
            For your wrath is as great as the fear that
            is due you.
Rev 2:1 …These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands… 8 These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again… 12 These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword… 18 These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.
Rev. 3:1 These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars… 7 These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open… 14 These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation… 19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.
12   Teach us to number our days aright,
            that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13   Relent, O LORD! How long will it be?
            Have compassion on your servants.
14             Satisfy us in the morning with your
            unfailing love,
            that we may sing for joy and be
            glad all our days.
2Cor. 5:14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.  15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
John 13:34   “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
15   Make us glad for as many days as you have
            afflicted us,
            for as many years as we have seen
            trouble.
16   May your deeds be shown to your servants,
            your splendour to their children.

17   May the favour of the Lord our God rest             upon us;
            establish the work of our hands for us—
            yes, establish the work of our hands.
