Psalm 102 Prayed

Psalm 102 Prayed
Praying that Christ would rebuild me
and his Church

   Hear my prayer, O Lord Jesus;
            let my cry for help come to you.
   Do not hide your face from me
            when I am in distress.
   Turn your ear to me;
            when I call, answer me quickly.
   For you were made like me in every way,
            in order that you might become a merciful
            and faithful high priest in service to God,
   and that you might make atonement on the cross
            for the sins of the people.
   Because you suffered when you were tempted,
            you are able to help me when I am being
            tempted.

   My days vanish like smoke;
            my bones burn like glowing embers.
   My heart is blighted and withered like grass;
            I forget to eat my food.
   Because of my loud groaning
            I am reduced to skin and bones.
   I am like a desert owl,
            like an owl among the ruins.
   I lie awake; I have become
            like a bird alone on a roof.
   All day long my enemies taunt me;
            those who rail against me
            use my name as acurse.
   For I eat ashes as my food
            and mingle my drink with tears.
   I feel as if I am a victim of your great wrath,
            as if you have taken me up and thrown me
            aside.
   My days are like the evening shadow;
            I wither away like grass.

   But you, O Lord Jesus, sit enthroned forever;
            your renown endures through all generations.
   Therefore I can approach your throne of grace with
            confidence,
            so that I may receive mercy and find grace
            to help in the time of need.

   Therefore arise and have compassion on your
            Church,
            for it is time to show favour to her;
            the appointed time has come.
   You have declared her to be your household,
            the Church of the living God,
            the pillar and ground of the truth.
   Let these stones be dear to your servants;
            may her very dust move them to pity.
   Let nations fear the name of the Lord Jesus,
            may all the governments of the earth revere
            your glory.
   O Lord Jesus, rebuild your Church
            and appear in your glory.
   Respond to the prayer of the destitute;
            do not despise our plea.

   Let this be written for a future generation,
            that a people not yet created may praise you,
            O Lord:
   “The Lord Jesus looked down from his sanctuary
            on high,
            from heaven he viewed the earth,
   to hear the groans of the prisoners
            and release those condemned to death.
   So the Word became flesh
            and made his dwelling among us.
   The apostles saw his glory,
            the glory of the One and Only,
            who came from the Father,
            full of grace and truth.
   The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord was on him,
            because the Father had anointed him
            to preach good news to the poor.
   He sent him to bind up the brokenhearted,
            to proclaim freedom for the captives
            and release from darkness for the prisoners,
   to proclaim the year of the Father’s favour
            and the day of vengeance of our God,
   to comfort all who mourn,
            and provide for those who grieve in his
            Church—
   to bestow on us a crown of beauty
            instead of ashes,
   the oil of gladness
            instead of mourning,
   and a garment of praise
            instead of a spirit of despair.”

   Therefore let the name of the Lord Jesus be
             declared in the Church
            and his praise among the people of God.
   Let all the peoples and the nations of the world
            assemble to worship the Lord Jesus.

   In the course of my life you broke my strength;
            you cut short my days, O Lord.
   But you said to me,
   “My grace is sufficient for you,
            for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
   So I said:
   “O Jesus, the Son of God,
             Therefore I will boast all the more gladly
            about my weaknesses,
            so that your power may rest on me.
   That is why, for your sake,
            I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships,
             in persecutions, in difficulties.
   For when I am weak,
            then I am strong.
   Therefore do not take me away, O my God,
            in the midst of my days;
            your years go on through all generations.
   In the beginning  you laid the foundations of the
            earth,
            and the heavens are the work of your hands.
   They will perish, but you remain;
            they will all wear out like a garment.
   Like clothing you will change them
            and they will be discarded.
   But you remain the same,
            and your years will never end.
   The children of your servants will live in your
            presence;
            their descendants will be established before you.”

Psalm 102
A prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament before the LORD.

1   Hear my prayer, O LORD;
            let my cry for help come to you.
2   Do not hide your face from me
            when I am in distress.
   Turn your ear to me;
            when I call, answer me quickly.
Heb. 2:17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.  18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
3   For my days vanish like smoke;
            my bones burn like glowing embers.
4   My heart is blighted and withered like grass;
            I forget to eat my food.
5   Because of my loud groaning
            I am reduced to skin and bones.
6   I am like a desert owl,
            like an owl among the ruins.
7   I lie awake; I have become
            like a bird alone on a roof.
8   All day long my enemies taunt me;
            those who rail against me use my name as
            a curse.
9   For I eat ashes as my food
            and mingle my drink with tears
10   because of your great wrath,
            for you have taken me up and thrown me
            aside.
11   My days are like the evening shadow;
            I wither away like grass.

12   But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever;
            your renown endures through all
            generations.
Heb. 4:16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
13   You will arise and have compassion on Zion,
            for it is time to show favour to her;
            the appointed time has come.
1Tim. 3:15 …God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
14   For her stones are dear to your servants;
            her very dust moves them to pity.
15   The nations will fear the name of the LORD,
            all the kings of the earth will revere your
            glory.
16   For the LORD will rebuild Zion
            and appear in his glory.
17   He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
            he will not despise their plea.

18   Let this be written for a future generation,
            that a people not yet created may praise
            the LORD:
19   “The LORD looked down from his sanctuary
            on high,
            from heaven he viewed the earth,
20   to hear the groans of the prisoners
            and release those condemned to death.”
John 1:14                The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Is. 61:1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’S favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

21   So the name of the LORD will be declared in
            Zion
            and his praise in Jerusalem
22   when the peoples and the kingdoms
            assemble to worship the LORD.

23   In the course of my life he broke
            my strength;
            he cut short my days.
2Cor. 12:9a But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
24a   So I said:
2Cor. 12:9b …Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
24b            “Do not take me away, O my God, in the
            midst of my days;
            your years go on through all generations.
25   In the beginning you laid the foundations of
            the earth,
            and the heavens are the work of your
            hands.
26   They will perish, but you remain;
            they will all wear out like a garment.
        Like clothing you will change them
            and they will be discarded.
27   But you remain the same,
            and your years will never end.
28   The children of your servants will live in your
            presence;
            their descendants will be established
            before you.”
