Psalm 140 Prayed

Psalm 140 Prayed
Praying for the persecuted Church

   Rescue the persecuted Church, O Lord, from evil
              men;

              protect them from men of violence,
   who devise evil plans in their hearts
              and stir up war every day.
   They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s;

              the poison of vipers is on their lips.

   Keep your persecuted people, O Lord,
              from the hands of the wicked;
   protect them from men of violence
              who plan to trip their feet.
   Proud men have hidden a snare for your people;

              they have spread out the cords of their net
              and have set traps for me along their path.

   O Lord, they say to you, “You are our God.

              Hear, O Lord, our cry for mercy.”
   For these are they who have come out of great
              tribulation;
              they have washed their robes
              and made them white in the blood of the
              Lamb.
   Therefore you have promised that
               they are before your throne O God,
              and serve you day and night in your temple;
   O Lord Jesus, the one who sits on the throne
               spread your tent over them.
   Never again let them hunger;
              never again let them thirst.
   Do not let the sun beat upon them,
              nor any scorching heat.
   For you are the Lamb at the centre of the throne
               you are their shepherd;
   Lead them to springs of living water,
              and wipe away every tear from their eyes.
   O Sovereign Lord, their strong deliverer,

              who shields their heads in the day of battle—
   do not grant the wicked their desires, O Lord;

              do not let their plans succeed,

              or they will become proud.

   Let the heads of those who surround the persecuted
              Church
              be covered with the trouble their lips have
              caused.
   You call us to love our enemies
              and pray for those who persecute us,
              therefore we pray:
   Let burning coals of shame fall upon them;
              may they see their evil and repent of it.
   Let us be happy,
              not because they were made sorry,
              but because their sorrow led them to
              repentance.
   Let them be sorrowful as you intend, O God,
              and do not let them be harmed in any way by
              us.
   May they know the godly sorrow that brings
              repentance
              that leads to salvation and leaves no regret.
   May their violence be thrown into the fire,

              into miry pits, never to rise.
   Let slanderers not be established in those lands;

              may disaster hunt down men of violence.

   We know that you secure justice for the poor, O
              Lord,
              and you uphold the cause of the needy.
   Surely the righteous will praise your name

              and the upright will live before you.

Psalm 140
For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1   Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men;
              protect me from men of violence,
2   who devise evil plans in their hearts
              and stir up war every day.
3   They make their tongues as sharp as a
              serpent’s;
              the poison of vipers is on their lips.   Selah

4   Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the
              wicked;
              protect me from men of violence
              who plan to trip my feet.
5   Proud men have hidden a snare for me;
              they have spread out the cords of their net
              and have set traps for me along my
              path.                                                                         Selah

6   O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.”
              Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.
Rev. 7:14  … “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  15 Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. 16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat.
17 For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
7   O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer,
              who shields my head in the day of battle—
8   do not grant the wicked their desires, O
              LORD;
              do not let their plans succeed,
              or they will become proud.                             Selah

9   Let the heads of those who surround me
              be covered with the trouble their lips have
              caused.
Mat. 5:44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

10a   Let burning coals fall upon them;

2Cor. 7:9 yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret,

10b              may they be thrown into the fire,
              into miry pits, never to rise.
11   Let slanderers not be established in the land;
              may disaster hunt down men of violence.

12   I know that the LORD secures justice for the
              poor
              and upholds the cause of the needy.
13   Surely the righteous will praise your name
              and the upright will live before you.
