Psalm 4 Prayed

Psalm 4 Prayed
For boldness in evangelism

   Answer me when I call to you,
            O my righteous God.
   Give me relief from my distress;
            be merciful to me and hear my prayer.

   My heart goes out to all those I know,
            who do not yet know Jesus as Saviour.
   How can they call on the one
            they have not believed in?
   And how can they believe in the one
            of whom they have not heard?
   And how can they hear
            without someone preaching to them?
   Give me courage and boldness to speak with them,
            and wisdom and sensitivity
            to find ways to say to them;

   “How long, my friends,
            will you turn Christ's glory into shame?
   How long will you love the delusions of
            materialism?
            seek the false gods of consumerism?
   Don't you know that the Lord
            wants to set you  apart for himself?
   The Lord Jesus hears my prayers
            when I call to him.
   I don't want to make you angry
            by telling you these things.
   Go home tonight and when you are on your bed,
            search your heart and be silent.
   Jesus has offered the only right sacrifice:
            For Christ died for sins once for all,
            the righteous for the unrighteous,
            to bring you to God.
            Trust in the Lord!”

   Give me courage to speak to them about you,
            Because secretly many of my friends
            are asking, “Who can show us any good?”
   Let the light of your face shine upon them,
            O Lord Jesus.

   When you finally save them,
            then, you will have filled my heart with
            greater joy than when
            good food and drink abound.
   Then I will lie down and sleep in peace,
            for you alone, O Lord Jesus,
            can make us dwell in the safety
            of your forgiveness and acceptance.

Psalm 4
For the director of music. With stringed instruments.
 A psalm of David.

1   Answer me when I call to you,
            O my righteous God.
      Give me relief from my distress;
            be merciful to me and hear my prayer.
Rom. 10:14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
2   How long, O men, will you turn
            my glory into shame?
       How long will you love delusions
            and seek false gods?    Selah

3     Know that the LORD has set apart
            the godly for himself;
            the LORD will hear when I call to him.

4    In your anger do not sin;
            when you are on your beds,
            search your hearts and be silent.    Selah

5a   Offer right sacrifices
1Pet. 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
5b            and trust in the LORD.

6   Many are asking,
            “Who can show us any good?”
     Let the light of your face shine upon us,
            O LORD.

7    You have filled my heart with greater joy
            than when their grain
            and new wine abound.
8    I will lie down and sleep in peace,
            for you alone, O LORD,
            make me dwell in safety.
