Psalm 2 Prayed

Psalm 2 Prayed
Praying for the world’s governments
 and global missions

   O my Lord and Father, as I watch the news,
            I wonder:
   Why do the nations conspire
            and the peoples plot in vain?
   The governments of the earth take their stand
            and the rulers gather together
   against the You, O Lord,
            and against your Messiah, Jesus.
   “Let us break their chains,” they say,
            “and throw off their fetters.”

   The One enthroned in heaven laughs,
            the Lord Jesus scoffs at them.
   For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
            but against the rulers, against the authorities,
   against the powers of this dark world
            and against the spiritual forces of evil
            in the heavenly realms.
    So help me fix my eyes on Jesus,
            the author and perfecter of my faith,
   who for the joy set before him endured the cross,
            scorning its shame,
   and sat down at the right hand
            of your throne, O God the Father.
   And having disarmed the powers and authorities,
            he made a public spectacle of them,
            triumphing over them by the cross.
   Then you rebuked them in your anger
            and terrified them in your wrath, saying,
   “I have installed Jesus as King
            on Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem,
            the city of the living God,
            and the government will be on his shoulders.”

   Father God, you have proclaimed the decree of the
            Lord Jesus. You have said to him,
   “You are my Son;
            today I have become your Father.
   Ask of me,
            and I will make the nations your inheritance,
            the ends of the earth your possession.”
   Since you have given all authority
            in heaven and on earth to Jesus,
            grant your eternal Son this promise.
   Help us to go and make disciples of all nations,
            baptising them in the name
            of the Father and of the Son
            and of the Holy Spirit,
   and teaching them to obey
            everything Jesus has commanded us.
   Let him rule them with an iron sceptre;
            let him dash their pride to pieces
            like pottery.”

   Help us to use what influence we have,
            to remind our politicians to be wise,
            and to warn the rulers of the earth:
   “Serve the Lord with fear
            and rejoice with trembling.
   Kiss the Son by yielding your power to him,
            lest he be angry with your abuse of power
   and you be destroyed by your way of doing things,
            for his wrath can flare up in a moment,
            but blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

Psalm 2

1   Why do the nations conspire
            and the peoples plot in vain?
2     The kings of the earth take their stand
            and the rulers gather together
       against the LORD
            and against his Anointed One.
3    “Let us break their chains,” they say,
            “and throw off their fetters.”
4   The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
            the Lord scoffs at them.
Eph. 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Heb. 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Col. 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
5     Then he rebukes them in his anger
            and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6   “I have installed my King
            on Zion, my holy hill.”
Heb. 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God…
Is. 9:6 ..and the government will be on his shoulders.
7   I will proclaim the decree of the LORD:
            He said to me, “You are my Son;
            today I have become your Father.
8   Ask of me,
            and I will make the nations your
            inheritance,
            the ends of the earth your possession.
Matt. 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
9   You will rule them with an iron sceptre;
            you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10   Therefore, you kings, be wise;
            be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11   Serve the LORD with fear
            and rejoice with trembling.
12   Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
            and you be destroyed in your way,
        for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
            Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
