Psalm 66 Prayed

Psalm 66 Prayed
Praising God for his redemption

    May all the earth shout with joy to you,  O God.
             Let the whole world sing the glory of your
            name;
            and make your praise glorious!
   May every human being say to you;
             “How awesome are your deeds!
            So great is your power
            that your enemies cringe before you.
   All the earth bows down to you;
            they sing praise to you,
            they sing praise to your name.”

   May all humanity come and see what you have
            done,
            how awesome your works in our behalf!
    You turned the sea into dry land,
            when ancient Israel passed through the waters
                  on foot—
   They were all under the cloud
            and that they all passed through the sea.
   They were all baptized into Moses
            in the cloud and in the sea.
   They all ate the same spiritual food
          and drank the same spiritual drink;
   for they drank from the spiritual rock that
          accompanied them,
            and that rock was you, O Christ.
   Come, let everyone rejoice in you.

   You rule forever by your power,
            your eyes watch the nations—
            let not the rebellious rise up against you.
   Let all peoples praise you as our God,
            let the sound of your praise be heard;
   you have preserved our lives
            and kept our feet from slipping.
   For you, O God, tested us;
            you refined us like silver.
   You brought us into prison
            and laid burdens on our backs.
   You let men ride over our heads;
            we went through fire and water,
            but you brought us to a place of abundance.
   For you shook the foundations of my prison.
            At once all my prison doors flew open,
            and my chains came loose.
   Because you loved me,
            you freed me from my sins,
            by your blood.
   It was for freedom
            that you set me free.
   So help me to stand firm
            and do not let me be burdened again,
            by a yoke of slavery.

   I need no longer to come to your temple with burnt
            offerings,
            to fulfil my vows to you—
   vows like King David once promised
            and his mouth spoke
            when he was in trouble.
   I need no longer sacrifice fat animals to you
            and an offering of rams;
            I will not offer bulls and goats.
   For the former regulation was set aside
            because it was weak and useless
         (for the law made nothing perfect),
  and a better hope was introduced,
            by which I draw near to you, O God.
   Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings
            and sin offerings you do not desire,
            nor are you pleased with them,
   because my priest, Jesus offered for all time
            one sacrifice for sins.
   And by that one sacrifice he has made perfect
            forever
            those who are being made holy.
   Therefore, I can have confidence to enter the Most
            Holy Place
            by the blood of Jesus,
   by a new and living way
            opened for us through his body.
   Since I have Jesus,
            a great priest over the house of God,
   help me draw near to you, O God,
            with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,
   having my heart sprinkled
            to cleanse me from a guilty conscience.

   May all who fear you, O God, come and listen,
            let me tell them what you have done for me.
   I cried out to you with my mouth;
            your praise was on my tongue.
   If I had cherished sin in my heart,
            you would not have listened;
   but you have surely listened
            and heard my voice in prayer.
   Praise be to you, O God,
            for you have not rejected my prayer.
            or withheld your love from me!

Psalm 66
For the director of music. A song. A psalm.

1   Shout with joy to God, all the earth!
2             Sing the glory of his name;
            make his praise glorious!
3   Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
            So great is your power
            that your enemies cringe before you.
4   All the earth bows down to you;
            they sing praise to you,
            they sing praise to your name.”                   Selah

5    Come and see what God has done,
            how awesome his works in man’s behalf!
6a   He turned the sea into dry land,
            they passed through the waters on foot—
1Cor. 10:1               For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.  2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.  3 They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
6b            come, let us rejoice in him.

7   He rules forever by his power,
            his eyes watch the nations—
            let not the rebellious rise up against him.
Selah
8   Praise our God, O peoples,
            let the sound of his praise be heard;
9   he has preserved our lives
            and kept our feet from slipping.
10  For you, O God, tested us;
            you refined us like silver.
11  You brought us into prison
            and laid burdens on our backs.
12  You let men ride over our heads;
            we went through fire and water,
            but you brought us to a place of
           abundance.
Acts 16:26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose.
Rev. 1:5  To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,
Gal. 5:1  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
13  I will come to your temple with burnt
            offerings
            and fulfil my vows to you—
14  vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke
            when I was in trouble.
15   I will sacrifice fat animals to you
            and an offering of rams;
            I will offer bulls and goats.                         Selah
Heb. 7:18  The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
Heb. 10:8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them” (although the law required them to be made)... 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God... 14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy... 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,  20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,  21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,  22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience...
16  Come and listen, all you who fear God;
            let me tell you what he has done for me.
17  I cried out to him with my mouth;
            his praise was on my tongue.
18  If I had cherished sin in my heart,
            the Lord would not have listened;
19  but God has surely listened
            and heard my voice in prayer.
20  Praise be to God,
            who has not rejected my prayer
            or withheld his love from me!
