Psalm 115 Prayed

Psalm 115
Praying for the salvation of the Jews

   Not to us, O Lord, not to us
            but to your name be the glory,
            because of your love and faithfulness.

   Why do the nations say,
            why does even modern Israel say:
            “Where is their God?”
   Our Triune God is in heaven;
            you do whatever pleases you.
   But their idols are silver and gold,
            made by the hands of men.
   They have mouths, but cannot speak,
            eyes, but they cannot see;
   they have ears, but cannot hear,
            noses, but they cannot smell;
   they have hands, but cannot feel,
            feet, but they cannot walk;
            nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
   Those who made them have become like them,
            and so have all who trusted in them.
   For Israel remains a rebellious people.
            They have eyes to see, but do not see
            and ears to hear but do not hear,
            for they are a rebellious people.
   The god of this age has blinded the minds of
            unbelievers,
            so that they cannot see the light of the gospel
   of the glory of Christ,
            who is the image of God.

   O house of Israel, trust in God the Father—
            he is your help and shield.
   O house of Aaron, trust in the God the Son—
            he is your help and shield.
   You who fear him, trust in the God the Holy
            Spirit—
            he is your help and shield.

   Have you, O Israel, stumbled so as to fall beyond
            recovery?
            Not at all!
   Rather, because of your transgression,
            salvation has come to us, the Gentiles
   For we were separate from Christ,
            excluded from citizenship in Israel
            and foreigners to the covenants of the promise,
            without hope and without God in the world.
   But now in Christ Jesus we who once were far
            away
            have been brought near through the blood of
            Christ.
   We are no longer foreigners and aliens,
            but fellow citizens with God’s people
            and members of God’s household.
   Therefore be envious, O Israel!

   O Lord, remember Israel and bless them:
            Bless the house of Israel with the gospel,
            Bless the house of Aaron with the gospel,
   bless them so they fear the Lord Jesus and believe
            in him—
            small and great alike.

    May the Triune God make them and us increase,
            both us and our children.
   May we be blessed by the Three in One,
            the Maker of heaven and earth.

   The highest heavens belong to you, O Lord,
            but the earth you has given to humanity.
   It is not those dead in their sins who praise the
            Lord,
            those who go down to the grave in silence;
   Now, since Israel's rejection of you brought
            reconciliation to the world,
            now let their acceptance be life from the dead.
   Let us extol the Lord Jesus along with them,
            both now and forevermore.
             Praise the Lord.

Psalm 115

1   Not to us, O LORD, not to us
            but to your name be the glory,
            because of your love and faithfulness.

2   Why do the nations say,
            “Where is their God?”
3   Our God is in heaven;
            he does whatever pleases him.
4   But their idols are silver and gold,
            made by the hands of men.
5   They have mouths, but cannot speak,
            eyes, but they cannot see;
6   they have ears, but cannot hear,
            noses, but they cannot smell;
7   they have hands, but cannot feel,
            feet, but they cannot walk;
            nor can they utter a sound with their
            throats.
8   Those who make them will be like them,
            and so will all who trust in them.
Ezek. 12:2 “Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.
2Cor. 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

9   O house of Israel, trust in the LORD—
            he is their help and shield.
10   O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD—
            he is their help and shield.
11   You who fear him, trust in the LORD—
            he is their help and shield.
Rom. 11:11 …Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.
Eph. 2:12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ… 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household…
Rom. 11:11 …to make Israel envious.

12   The LORD remembers us and will bless us:
            He will bless the house of Israel,
            he will bless the house of Aaron,
13   he will bless those who fear the LORD—
            small and great alike.

14   May the LORD make you increase,
            both you and your children.
15   May you be blessed by the LORD,
            the Maker of heaven and earth.

16   The highest heavens belong to the LORD,
            but the earth he has given to man.
17   It is not the dead who praise the LORD,
            those who go down to silence;
Rom. 11:15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
18   it is we who extol the LORD,
            both now and forevermore.

            Praise the LORD.
