Psalm 107 Prayed

Psalm 107 Prayed
Praising Jesus for our salvation

Thanking Jesus for saving us
   We give thanks to you, Lord Jesus, for you are
            good;
            your love endures forever.
   As the redeemed of the Lord, we say this—
            as those you redeemed from the hand of the
            foe,
   as those you gathered from the lands,
            from east and west, from north and south:

   Some of us wandered in desert wastelands,
            finding no way to a city where we could
            settle.
   We were hungry and thirsty,
            and our lives ebbed away.
   Then we cried out to you in our trouble, O Jesus,
            and you delivered us from our distress.
   You led us through the small gate,
            along the narrow and straight way that leads to
            life,
            you led us to a city where we could settle,
   Now we are longing for a better country—
             a heavenly one.
   Therefore your are not ashamed to be called our
            God,
            for you have prepared a city for us.
   We give thanks to you, Lord Jesus for your
            unfailing love
            and your wonderful deeds for men,
   for you satisfied our thirst,
            you cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come
            to me and drink.”
   You fill our hunger with good things, for you
            promised;
            “I am the bread of life.
            He who comes to me will never go hungry,
            and he who believes in me will never be
            thirsty.”

Thanking Jesus for saving us from sin
   Some of us sat in darkness and the deepest gloom,
            prisoners suffering in iron chains,
   for we had rebelled against the Word of God
            and despised the counsel of the Most High.
   So you subjected us to bitter labour;
            we stumbled, and there was no one to help.
   Then we cried to Jesus in our trouble,
            and you saved us from our distress.
   You brought us out of darkness and the deepest
            gloom
            and broke away our chains.
   You freed us, who all our lives
            were held in slavery by our fear of death.
   Now we know that our old self was crucified
            with you,
            so that the body of sin might be done away
            with,
   that we should no longer be slaves to sin,
            because anyone who has died has been freed
            from sin.
   Now since we died with you, O Christ,
            we believe that we will also live with you.
   For we know that since you were raised from the
            dead,
            you cannot die again;
            death no longer has mastery over you.
   The death you died,
            you died to sin once for all of us;
            but the life we now live, we live to God.
   So we give thanks to you, Lord Jesus, for your
            unfailing love
            and your wonderful deeds for us,
   for you broke down gates of bronze
            and cut through bars of iron.

Thanking Jesus for saving us from ourselves
   Some of us became fools through our rebellious
            ways
            and suffered affliction because of our
            iniquities.
   We loathed all food
            and drew near the gates of death.
   Then we cried to Jesus in our trouble,
            and you saved us from our distress.
   You sent forth your Word the Bible and healed us;
            you rescued us from the grave.
   For even after our skin has been destroyed,
            yet in our flesh we will see God;
   By the power that enables you
            to bring everything under your control,
   you will transform our lowly bodies
            so that they will be like your glorious body.
   You are the resurrection and the life.
            Since we believe in you,
            we will live, even though we will die.
   So we give thanks to the you, Lord Jesus, for your
            unfailing love
            and your wonderful deeds for us.
   We bring you our sacrifice of thank offerings
            and tell of your works with songs of joy.

Thanking Jesus for saving us from life’s troubles
   Some of us went out on the sea in ships;
            we were like merchants on the mighty waters.
   We saw your works, O Lord,
            your wonderful deeds in the deep.
   For you spoke and stirred up a tempest
            that lifted high the waves.
   We mounted up to the heavens and went down to
            the depths;
            in our peril our courage melted away.
   We reeled and staggered like drunken men;
            we were at their wits’ end.
   Then we cried out to you in our trouble,
            and you brought us out of our distress.
   You stilled the storm to a whisper;
            the waves of the sea were hushed.
   We were like your disciples when a squall came
            down on the lake,
            so that the boat was being swamped,
            and they were in great danger.
   They went and woke you, saying,
            “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
   You got up and rebuked the wind and the raging
            waters;
            the storm subsided, and all was calm.
   We too were glad when it grew calm,
            and you guided us to our desired haven.
   So we give thanks to you, Lord Jesus for your
            unfailing love
            and your wonderful deeds for men.
   We exalt you in the assembly of the people
            and praise you before our whole church.

Thanking Jesus for persevering in saving us
   For ancient Israel, you turned the rivers of Canaan
            into a desert,
            flowing springs into thirsty ground,
   and fruitful land into a salt waste,
            because of the wickedness of those who lived
            there.
   You then turned the desert into pools of water
            and the parched ground into flowing springs;
   there you brought the hungry escaped slaves of
            Egypt to live,
            and they founded the city of Jerusalem where
            they could settle.
   They sowed fields and planted vineyards
            that yielded a fruitful harvest;
   you blessed them, and their numbers greatly
            increased,
            and you did not let their herds diminish.
   Then their numbers decreased, and they were
            humbled
            by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
   You poured contempt on nobles
            made them wander in a trackless waste.
   But you lifted the needy out of their affliction
            and increased their families like flocks.
   The upright see the works you did for your people
            and rejoice,
            but all the wicked shut their mouths.
   And since you have also began a good work in us,
            you will carry it on to completion
            until the day of Jesus Christ.
   You will keep us strong to the end,
            so that we will be blameless on the day
            of your return, Lord Jesus Christ.
   Since we died with you,
            we will also live with you;
   if we endure,
            we will also reign with you.
   If we disown you,
            you will also disown us;
   if we are faithless,
            you will remain faithful,
            for you cannot disown yourself.

   Make us wise and let us heed these things
            and consider your great love, O Lord Jesus.

Psalm 107

1   Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
            his love endures forever.
2   Let the redeemed of the LORD say this—
            those he redeemed from the hand of the
            foe,
3   those he gathered from the lands,
            from east and west, from north and south.

4   Some wandered in desert wastelands,
            finding no way to a city where they could
            settle.
5   They were hungry and thirsty,
            and their lives ebbed away.
6   Then they cried out to the LORD in their
            trouble,
            and he delivered them from their distress.
7a   He led them by a straight way

7b            to a city where they could settle.
Heb. 11:16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
8   Let them give thanks to the LORD for his
            unfailing love
            and his wonderful deeds for men,
9a  for he satisfies the thirsty

9b            and fills the hungry with good things.
Jn. 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

13   Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
            and he saved them from their distress.
14   He brought them out of darkness and the
            deepest gloom
            and broke away their chains.
