Psalm 80 Prayed

Psalm 80 Prayed
Praying that God would restore his Church

   Hear us, O Good Shepherd,
            the Good Shepherd who laid his life down for
            the sheep,
            you who lead your Church like a flock;
   you who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
            shine forth
            before the Reformed, the Baptists, and the
            Presbyterians.
   Awaken your might;
            come and save us,
   For you have other sheep
             that are not of our sheep pens
            and you must bring them also.
   They too will listen to your voice,
            and there shall be one flock
            and one shepherd.

   Restore us, O God;
            make your face shine upon us,
            that we may be saved.
   O Father, God Almighty,
            how long will your anger smoulder
            against the prayers of your people?
   You have fed us with the bread of tears;
            you have made us drink tears by the bowlful.
   You have made us a source of contention to our
            neighbours,
            and our enemies mock us.
   Restore us, O God Almighty;
            make your face shine upon us,
            that we may be saved.

   For you so loved the world
            that you gave us your only Son.
   So you brought your Church out of darkness
            and planted us like a vineyard,
            you gave us space among the nations to
            flourish.
   You cleared the ground for us,
            and we took root and are now filling the earth.
   The mountains are being covered with our shade,
            the mighty cedars with our branches.
   We are sending out our boughs to every sea,
            our shoots as far as every river.

   O Lord Jesus, you are the true vine,
             and your Father is the gardener.
         He cuts off every branch in you that bears no
            fruit,
   while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes
            so that it will be even more fruitful.
   Thank you that we are already clean
            because of the word you have spoken to us.
   Help us to remain in you, and remain in us.
            No branch can bear fruit by itself;
            it must remain in the vine.
   Neither can we bear fruit
            unless we remain in you.
   You are the vine; we are the branches.
            If we remain in you and you in us,
   we will bear much fruit;
            apart from you we can do nothing.
   If we do not remain in you,
            we are like a branch that is thrown away and
            withers;
   such branches are picked up,
            thrown into the fire and burned.
   If we remain in you and your words remain in us,
            we can ask whatever we wish,
            and it will be given to us.
   For the sake of your Father’s glory,
            we ask that we would bear much fruit,
            showing ourselves to be your disciples.

   But Father God, why have you broken down your
            Church's walls,
            so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
   Boars from the forest ravage it
            and the creatures of the field feed on it.
   Return to us, O God Almighty!
            Look down from heaven and see!

   Watch over this Vine,
            the root your right hand has planted,
   the Son of God you have raised up from the grave
            for yourself,
            and us, the branches united to him.

   Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire;
            at your rebuke your people perish.
   Let your hand rest on the Man at your right hand,
            the Son of Man you have raised up.
   Who has gone into heaven,
            and is as your right hand,
   with angels, authorities and powers
            in submission to him.
   Then we will not turn away from you;
            revive us, and we will call on your name.
   Restore us, O Father, God Almighty;
            make your face shine upon us,
            that we may be saved.

Psalm 80
For the director of music. To [the tune of] “The Lilies of the Covenant.” Of Asaph. A psalm.

1a Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel,
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
1b            you who lead Joseph like a flock;
      you who sit enthroned between the
            cherubim,
            shine forth
2             before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
      Awaken your might;
            come and save us.
John 10:16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

3   Restore us, O God;
            make your face shine upon us,
            that we may be saved.
4   O LORD God Almighty,
            how long will your anger smoulder
            against the prayers of your people?
5   You have fed them with the bread of tears;
            you have made them drink tears by the
            bowlful.
6   You have made us a source of contention to
            our neighbours,
            and our enemies mock us.
7   Restore us, O God Almighty;
            make your face shine upon us,
            that we may be saved.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
8   You brought a vine out of Egypt;
            you drove out the nations and planted it.
9   You cleared the ground for it,
            and it took root and filled the land.
10  The mountains were covered with its shade,
            the mighty cedars with its branches.
11  It sent out its boughs to the Sea,
            its shoots as far as the River.

John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

12   Why have you broken down its walls
            so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
13   Boars from the forest ravage it
            and the creatures of the field feed on it.
14   Return to us, O God Almighty!
            Look down from heaven and see!

       Watch over this vine,
15             the root your right hand has planted,
            the son you have raised up for yourself.

16  Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire;
            at your rebuke your people perish.
17  Let your hand rest on the man at your right
            hand,
            the son of man you have raised up for
            yourself.
1Pet. 3:22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
18  Then we will not turn away from you;
            revive us, and we will call on your name.
19  Restore us, O LORD God Almighty;
            make your face shine upon us,
            that we may be saved.
