Psalm 118 Prayed (A)

  Psalm 118 Prayed (A)
Thanking Jesus for what he endured on the cross for me

   I give thanks to you, O Lord Jesus, for you are good;
Your love endures forever.
   Let all the Church say:
“Your love endures forever.”
   Let the household of God say:
“Your love endures forever.”
   Let those who fear you, Lord Jesus, say:
“Your love endures forever.”

  In your anguish you cried to your Father,
and he answered by setting you free from the grave.
  Even as you faced the cross, your Father was with you,
you were not afraid;
        What could man to to you?
Your Father was with you; he was your helper.
  Now you look in triumph over your enemies.

  It is better to take refuge in you, Lord Jesus,
  than to put trust in man.
  It is better to take refuge in you, Lord Jesus,
than to trust in the government.

   All the nations surrounded you,
but in the name of your Father you cut them off.
   They surrounded you on every side,
But in the name of your Father you cut them off.
  Those who passed by hurled insults at you,
shaking their heads, said,
   “You who are going to destroy the temple
and build it in three days, save yourself!
   Come down from the cross,
if you are the Son of God!”
   In the same way the chief priests,
the teachers of the law and the elders
mocked you.
   “He saved others,” they said,
“but he can’t save himself!
He’s the King of Israel!
        Let him come down now from the cross,
and we will believe in him.
        He trusts in God.
Let God rescue him now if he wants him,
    for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
    In the same way the robbers
who were crucified with you
also heaped insults on you.
    They swarmed around you like bees,
        but they died out as quickly as burning
 thorns;
 in the name of the LORD you them off.
    For at the cross it was the time for judgment
        on this world;
        then the prince of this world was driven out.

   You were pushed back and about to fall
but your Father helped you.
   Your Father is your strength and song;
He has become your salvation.
   For you were not abandoned to the grave
nor did your body see decay,
for your Father raised you to life.

   Therefore I will shout of joy and victory
shall resound in my home for you have made me righteous.
   You, O Lord Jesus, have done mighty things!
Your right hand is lifted high, O Lord Jesus,
Your right hand has done mighty things.

   For you did not die, but live.
You proclaim what your Father has done.
   He chastened you severely
but he did not give you over to death.
   He assigned you a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in death,
   though you had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in your mouth.
   Yet it was your Father’s will to crush you,
and cause you to suffer.
   And though your Father made your life a guilt offering,
You now see your offspring
   and your days are now eternally prolonged,
and your Father’s will now prospers in your hand,
for he opened the gates of righteousness for you,
        you entered and gave thanks to your Father.

   The gospel is the gate of your Father,
        through which I may enter and become righteous.
 This is the narrow gate
      through which I must enter.
 For wide is the gate and broad is the road
       that leads to destruction,
        and many enter through it.
 But small is the gate and narrow the road
        that leads to life,
        and only a few find it.
 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
        you have become my salvation.

 Lord Jesus, you are the stone
        which the builders rejected.
        You have become the capstone;
 The Father has done this,
        and it is marvellous in our eyes.
 Therefore I come to you,
        the living Stone rejected by men
         but chosen by God and precious to him.
  In my local church I will come like a living stone,
         ready to be built into a spiritual house
         to be a holy priesthood,
  offering spiritual sacrifices
        acceptable to God through you, Jesus Christ.
  Let us be built on the foundation of the teaching
        of the apostles and prophets in the Bible,
        with yourself as the chief cornerstone.
  In you, may the whole building be joined together
        and rise to become a holy temple in the Lord.
   And in you, may we be built together
        to become a dwelling in which God may live
        by the Holy Spirit.

  This is the day the Lord has made;
        let us rejoice and be glad in it.

  O Lord Jesus, save us;
       O Lord Jesus, grant us success.
  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
       Jesus.
       From the house of the Lord Jesus we bless you.
  O Lord Jesus, you are God,
       and you have made your light shine upon us.
  As ancient Israel went with boughs in hand,
       and joined in the festal procession to the
       temple,
       up to the horns of the altar,
  so by faith, I join together with all true Christians
       and lay hold of the cross for salvation.

  You are my God, and I will give you thanks;
       you are my God, and I will exalt you.

  I give thanks to you, Lord Jesus, for you are good;
       your love endures forever.

Psalm 118

1   Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

2   Let Israel say:
“His love endures forever.”
3   Let the house of Aaron say:
“His love endures forever.”
4   Let those who fear the LORD say:
“His love endures forever.”

5   In my anguish I cried to the LORD,
and he answered by setting me free.
6   The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
7   The LORD is with me; he is my helper.
I will look in triumph on my enemies.
8   It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in man.
9   It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in princes.
10   All the nations surrounded me,
but in the name of the LORD I cut them
off.
11   They surrounded me on every side,
but in the name of the LORD I cut them
off.
Matt. 27:39-44 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.  “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.  He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”  In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
12   They swarmed around me like bees,
but they died out as quickly as burning
thorns;
in the name of the LORD I cut them off.
John 12:31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.

13   I was pushed back and about to fall,
but the LORD helped me.
14   The LORD is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
Acts 2:31-32  Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.  God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.

15   Shouts of joy and victory
resound in the tents of the righteous:
   “The LORD’S right hand has done mighty
things!
16 The LORD’S right hand is lifted high;
the LORD’S right hand has done mighty
things!”
17  I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the LORD has
done.
18   The LORD has chastened me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
Is. 53:9-10   He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the LORD’S will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

19   Open for me the gates of righteousness;
I will enter and give thanks to the LORD.

20   This is the gate of the LORD
through which the righteous may enter.
Matt. 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate… But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.
21   I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
you have become my salvation.

22   The stone the builders rejected
has become the capstone;
23   the LORD has done this,
and it is marvellous in our eyes.
1Pet. 2:4   As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him—5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Eph. 2:20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.  21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
24   This is the day the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25   O LORD, save us;
O LORD, grant us success.
26   Blessed is he who comes in the name of the
LORD.
From the house of the LORD we bless
you.
27   The LORD is God,
and he has made his light shine upon us.
        With boughs in hand, join in the festal
procession
up to the horns of the altar.

28   You are my God, and I will give you thanks;
you are my God, and I will exalt you.

29   Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
