Psalm 12 Prayed

Psalm 12 Prayed
Praying for integrity among the powerful

   Help, Lord, for the godly are no more.
            When I watch TV, or go to the movies,
            when I read books, or surf the internet,
            the faithful seem to have vanished
                  from among humanity.
   Everyone lies to their neighbour;
            their flattering lips speak with deception.

   O Lord, deliver us from the spin and manipulation
            that dominates our media, and our government.
   Cut off all flattering lips
            and every boastful tongue
   that says, “We will triumph with our tongues;
            we own our lips—who is our master?”

   O Lord Jesus, I long to hear you say;
            “Because of the oppression of the weak
            and the groaning of the needy,
            I will now arise.
            I will protect them from those
                  who malign them.”
   Therefore may those who are rich
            take pride in their low position,
            because they will pass away like a wild flower.
   For the sun rises with scorching heat
            and withers the plant,
   its blossom falls
            and its beauty is destroyed.
   In the same way, may these rich people see
            that they will fade away,
            even as they go about their business.
Rise up, O Lord, and fulfil your promises,
            for the words you revealed in the Bible are flawless,
                  they are like silver refined in a furnace of clay,
            purified seven times.

   O Lord Jesus, you will keep us safe
            and protect us from such people forever.
   The wicked freely strut about
            when what is vile is honoured among men,
            but your Word can change them.
   May they renounce secret and shameful ways;
            may they not use deception,
                  nor distort the word of God.
   On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly,
            may they commend themselves
                  to every man’s conscience
                  in your sight O God.
   So command those who are rich in this present age
            not to be haughty,
   nor to trust in uncertain riches,
            but let them find their riches in you, the living
            God,
            for you give us richly all things to enjoy.
   May they do good,
            that they may be rich in good works,
   ready to give,
            willing to share,
   storing up for themselves a good foundation
            for the time to come,
            that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Psalm 12
For the director of music. According to sheminith.
A psalm of David.

1   Help, LORD, for the godly are no more;
            the faithful have vanished
                  from among men.
2   Everyone lies to his neighbour;
            their flattering lips speak with deception.

3   May the LORD cut off all flattering lips
            and every boastful tongue
4   that says, “We will triumph with our tongues;
            we own our lips—who is our master?”

5   “Because of the oppression of the weak
            and the groaning of the needy,
                  I will now arise,” says the LORD.
            “I will protect them from those
                  who malign them.”
Jam. 1:10 But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.  11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.

6   And the words of the LORD are flawless,
            like silver refined in a furnace of clay,
            purified seven times.

7   O LORD, you will keep us safe
            and protect us from such people forever.
8   The wicked freely strut about
when what is vile is honoured among men.
2Cor. 4:2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

1Tim. 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.  18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,  19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life
