Psalm 57 Prayed

Gospel Psalm 57
Praising God for the victory of the cross

   Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me,
              for in you my soul takes refuge.
   I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
              until the disaster has passed.

   I cry out to you, God the Father, Most High,
              trusting you will fulfil your purpose for me.
   Send from heaven and save me,
              rebuke those who hotly pursue me;
   O God, send your love and faithfulness.

   I am in the midst of lions;
              I lie among ravenous beasts—
   those whose teeth are spears and arrows,
              whose tongues are sharp swords.
   For my adversary the devil walks about like a
              roaring lion,
              seeking whom he may devour.

   Be exalted, O God the Father, above the heavens;
              let your glory be over all the earth.
   They spread a net for Christ's feet—
              he was bowed down in distress.
   They dug a pit in his path—
              but they have fallen into it themselves.
   For in your secret wisdom,
              a wisdom that has been hidden
   and that you destined for my glory
              before time began,
   you made sure that none of the spiritual rulers of
              this age  would understood it,
   for if they had,
              they would not have crucified the Lord of
              glory.
   But through the Church,
              your manifold wisdom has been made known
   to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,
           according to your eternal purpose
              which you accomplished in Christ Jesus my
              Lord.
   Having disarmed the powers and authorities,
              he made a public spectacle of them,
              triumphing over them by the cross.
   Now you have rescued me from the dominion of
              darkness
              and brought me into the kingdom of your Son
              whom you love,
   in whom I have redemption,
              the forgiveness of sins.

   My heart is steadfast, O God,
              my heart is steadfast;
              I will sing and make music.
   Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre!
              I will awaken the dawn.

   I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;
              I will sing of you among the peoples.
   For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
              your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
   Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
              let your glory be over all the earth.

Psalm 57
For the director of music. [To the tune of] “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam. When he had fled from Saul into the cave.

1   Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on
              me,
              for in you my soul takes refuge.
      I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
              until the disaster has passed.

2   I cry out to God Most High, to God,
              who fulfils [his purpose] for me.
3   He sends from heaven and saves me,
              rebuking those who hotly pursue
              me;                                                        Selah
     God sends his love and his faithfulness.
4   I am in the midst of lions;
              I lie among ravenous beasts—
     men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
              whose tongues are sharp swords.
1Pet. 5:8 ..Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

5   Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
              let your glory be over all the earth.
6   They spread a net for my feet—
              I was bowed down in distress.
     They dug a pit in my path—
              but they have fallen into it themselves.

1Cor. 2:7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.  8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Eph. 3:10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,  11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Col. 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Col. 1:13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,  14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

7   My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is
              steadfast;
              I will sing and make music.
8   Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre!
              I will awaken the dawn.

9   I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;
              I will sing of you among the peoples.
10  For great is your love, reaching to the
              heavens;
              your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

11  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
              let your glory be over all the earth.
