Psalm
110
Worshiping Jesus as king, priest and judge
Worshiping Jesus as the reigning king
We worship you, O Jesus our reigning
Lord,
for
our Lord the Father has already said you:
“Sit at my right hand
until
I make your enemies
a
footstool for your feet.”
For you are the radiance of God’s
glory
and
the exact representation of his being,
sustaining
all things by your powerful word.
After you had provided
purification for our sins,
you
sat down at the right hand of the Majesty
in
heaven.
Therefore we pray that the eyes
of our hearts may
be
enlightened
in
order that we may know the hope to which
God
has called us,
the riches of his glorious
inheritance in the saints
and
his incomparably great power for us who
believe.
May we experience this power,
which is like the
working
of his mighty strength,
which
he exerted in you,
when he raised you from the
dead
and
seated you at his right hand
in
the heavenly realms,
far above all rule and authority,
power
and dominion,
and every title that can be
given,
not
only in the present age
but
also in the one to come.
May
we act, truly believing that your Father
has
placed all things under your feet
and appointed you to be head
over everything
for
the sake of us, the church,
which
is your body,
the fullness of you who
fills everything in every
way.
Speed the day when the end will
finally come,
when
you hand over the kingdom to your
Father,
after you have destroyed all
dominion, authority
and
power.
For you must reign
until
you have put all your enemies under your
feet.
The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
Since you are our Lord, O
Christ,
we
swear all our loyalty to you.
For the Father has promised to
extend
your
mighty sceptre from the heavenly Zion.
You
are ruling in the midst of your enemies.
Therefore we declare ourselves
to be your troops.
We
are willing on your day of battle to fight
spiritual
warfare.
For you have arrayed us in holy
majesty,
from
the womb of the dawn
you
will receive the dew of your youth.
Therefore help us to be strong
in you, O Lord
and
in your mighty power.
Help
us to put on the full armour of God
so
that we can take our stand against the
devil’s
schemes.
For our struggle is not against
flesh and blood,
but
against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark
world
and
against the spiritual forces of evil
in
the heavenly realms.
Therefore
help us to put on the full armour of God,
so
that when the day of evil comes,
we may be able to stand our
ground,
and
after we have done everything, to stand.
Help
us to stand firm,
with
the belt of truth buckled around our
waists,
with the breastplate of
righteousness in place,
and
with our feet fitted with the readiness
that
comes from the gospel of peace.
In
addition to all this,
help
us to take up the shield of faith,
with which we can extinguish
all
the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Let us take the helmet of
salvation
and
the sword of the Spirit,
which
is the word of God.
And
help us to pray in the Holy Spirit on all
occasions
with
all kinds of prayers and requests.
Worshiping Jesus as our heavenly priest
We worship you, Lord Jesus,
for
you Father has sworn
and
will not change your mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in
the order of Melchizedek.”
Although you were his Son,
you
learned obedience from what you suffered
and, once made perfect,
you became the source of
eternal salvation
for
all of us who obey you.
You
were designated by God
to
be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Because you live forever,
you
have a permanent priesthood.
Therefore you are able to save us
completely,
for
we come to God through you,
because
you always live to intercede for us.
As such a high priest, you meet
our need;
you
are one who is holy, blameless, pure,
set apart from sinners,
exalted
above the heavens.
Unlike
the high priests of ancient Israel,
you
do not need to offer sacrifices day after
day,
first for your own sins,
and
then for the sins of the people.
You sacrificed for our sins
once for all
when
you offered yourself on the cross.
Worshiping Jesus as the
coming judge
We worship you, Lord Jesus,
for
God has exalted you to the highest place,
and given you the name that is
above every name,
for
you are at your Father’s right hand.
But when you return to earth in
glory,
you
will crush kings
and
presidents and governments
on
the day of your wrath.
You will judge the nations,
heaping up the dead
and
crushing the rulers of the whole earth.
For at the name of Jesus every
knee will bow,
in
heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that
you are Lord,
to
the glory of God the Father.
You will drink from a brook
beside the way;
from
the river of the water of life,
as
clear as crystal,
flowing from the throne of God
and of the Lamb
down
the middle of the great street of the city,
therefore
you will lift up your head.
With justice you will judge and
make war.
For you eyes are like blazing fire,
and
on your head are many crowns.
You have a name written on you
that
no one knows but you yourself.
You
are dressed in a robe dipped in blood,
and
your name is the Word of God.
The
armies of heaven will be following you,
riding
on white horses
and
dressed in fine linen, white and clean.
Out
of your mouth will come a sharp sword
with
which you will strike down the nations.
You will rule them with an iron sceptre.
You
will tread the winepress of the fury of the
wrath
of God Almighty.
On
your robe and on your thigh you have this
name
written:
KING
OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Then there shall be a new
heaven and a new earth,
for
the first heaven and the first earth will pass
away,
and
there will no longer be any sea.
The Holy City, the new
Jerusalem,
will
come down out of heaven from you, O
God,
prepared
as a bride beautifully dressed for her
husband.
Your dwelling will be with us,
and
you will live with us.
We will be your people,
and
you will be with us and be our God.
You will wipe every tear from
our eyes.
There
will be no more death or mourning or
crying
or pain,
for
the old order of things will have passed
away.
