Psalm 71 Prayed

Psalm 71 Prayed
Trusting in the gospel through life’s trials

   In you, O Lord Jesus, I have taken refuge;
            let me never be put to shame.
   Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness;
            turn your ear to me and save me.
   May I be found in you,
            not having a righteousness of my own
            that comes from the law,
   but that which is through faith in you, O Christ—
            the righteousness that comes from God
            and is by faith.
   Be my rock of refuge,
            to which I can always go;
   give the command to save me,
            for you are my rock and my fortress.
   Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the
            Wicked One,
            from the grasp of evil and cruel people.

   For you have been my hope, O Sovereign Jesus,
            my confidence since my youth.
   From birth I have relied on you;
            you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
            I will ever praise you.
    I have become like a portent to many,
            but you are my strong refuge.
    My mouth is filled with your praise,
            declaring your splendour all day long.

   Do not cast me away when I am old;
            do not forsake me when my strength is gone.
   For my spiritual enemies speak against me;
            those who wait to kill my faith conspire
            together.
   They say, “God has forsaken him;
            pursue him and seize him,
            for no one will rescue him.”
   Be not far from me, O God;
            come quickly, O my God, to help me.
   May my accuser Satan perish in shame;
            may those who want to harm me
            be covered with scorn and disgrace.
   May they see their sin is before you,
            may they turn from their shame and disgrace
            and find forgiveness in you, O Lord Jesus.

   But as for me, I will always have hope;
            I will praise you more and more.
   My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
            of your salvation all day long,
            though I know not its measure.
   I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O
            Sovereign Lord Jesus;
            I will proclaim your righteousness, yours
            alone.
   For I have been crucified with you, O Christ
            and I no longer live, but you live in me.
   The life I live in the body,
            I live by faith you,  the Son of God,
   for you loved me
            and gave yourself for me.
   And since I am in you, O Christ,
            I am a new creation;
            the old has gone, the new has come!

  All this is from you, O God my Father.
            You reconciled me to yourself through Christ.
   For you were reconciling the world to yourself in
            Christ,
            not counting my sins against me.
   Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,
            and to this day I declare your marvellous
            deeds.
    Even when I am old and grey,
            do not forsake me, O God,
   till I declare your power to the next generation,
            your might to all who are to come.
   Your gift of righteousness reaches to the skies, O
            God,
            you who have done great things.
            Who, O God, is like you?
   Though you have made me see troubles, many and
            bitter,
            you will restore my life again;
   from the depths of the earth
            you will again bring me up.
   For by your power, O God, you raised the Lord
            Jesus from the dead,
            and you will raise me up also.
   My body which shall be sown perishable,
            shall be raised imperishable.
  It will be sown in dishonour,
            but you will raise it in glory.
   It will be sown in weakness,
            but you will raise it in power.
   It will be sown a natural body,
            but you will raise it a spiritual body.
   When the perishable has been clothed with the
            imperishable,
            and the mortal with immortality,
   then the saying that is written will come true:
            “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
   You will increase my honour in this,
            and comfort me with it once again.
   Then I will praise you with the harp
            for your faithfulness, O my God;
   I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
            O Holy One of heaven.
   My lips will shout for joy
            when I sing praise to you—
            I, whom you have redeemed.
   My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
            all day long,
   for those who wanted to harm me
            will have been put to shame and confusion.

Psalm 71

1   In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
            let me never be put to shame.
2   Rescue me and deliver me in your
            righteousness;
            turn your ear to me and save me.
Phil. 3:9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.
3   Be my rock of refuge,
            to which I can always go;
      give the command to save me,
            for you are my rock and my fortress.
4   Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the
            wicked,
            from the grasp of evil and cruel men.
5   For you have been my hope, O Sovereign
            LORD,
            my confidence since my youth.
6   From birth I have relied on you;
            you brought me forth from my mother’s
            womb.
            I will ever praise you.
7   I have become like a portent to many,
            but you are my strong refuge.
8   My mouth is filled with your praise,
            declaring your splendour all day long.
9   Do not cast me away when I am old;
            do not forsake me when my strength is
            gone.
10  For my enemies speak against me;
            those who wait to kill me conspire
            together.
11  They say, “God has forsaken him;
            pursue him and seize him,
            for no one will rescue him.”
12  Be not far from me, O God;
            come quickly, O my God, to help me.
13  May my accusers perish in shame;
            may those who want to harm me
            be covered with scorn and disgrace.

14  But as for me, I will always have hope;
            I will praise you more and more.
15  My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
            of your salvation all day long,
            though I know not its measure.
16  I will come and proclaim your mighty acts,
            O Sovereign LORD;
            I will proclaim your righteousness, yours
            alone.
Gal. 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
2Cor. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ...19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them...
17  Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,
            and to this day I declare your marvellous
            deeds.
18  Even when I am old and gray,
            do not forsake me, O God,
       till I declare your power to the next
            generation,
            your might to all who are to come.
19  Your righteousness reaches to the skies,
            O God,
            you who have done great things.
            Who, O God, is like you?
20  Though you have made me see troubles,
            many and bitter,
            you will restore my life again;
       from the depths of the earth
            you will again bring me up.
1Cor. 6:14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
1Cor. 15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;  43 it is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;  44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body... 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

21  You will increase my honour
            and comfort me once again.
22   I will praise you with the harp
            for your faithfulness, O my God;
       I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
            O Holy One of Israel.
23  My lips will shout for joy
            when I sing praise to you—
            I, whom you have redeemed.
24  My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
            all day long,
      for those who wanted to harm me
            have been put to shame and confusion.
