Psalm 16 Prayed
Finding Comfort in the Gospel
Keep me safe, O God,
for
in you I take refuge.
I said to you, Lord Jesus, “You are my Lord;
apart
from you I have no good thing.”
As for the saints who are in the Church,
they
are the ones you have made glorious,
in
whom is all your delight.
The sorrows of those will increase
who
run after other gods:
The lure of materialism is vanity,
the
promises of advertisers are vapid.
The self-righteous declare all
religions equal,
yet
they utterly reject you, O Lord Jesus.
I will not seek satisfaction in
false promises
or
take up their names on my lips.
Lord Jesus, you are my portion
and my cup,
so
graciously displayed at the Lord's Supper;
you
have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen
for me
in
pleasant places;
surely
I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise you, Lord Jesus,
who counsels me;
even
at night my heart instructs me.
I have set you always before
me.
Because
you are at my right hand,
I
will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad, O
Father God,
and
my tongue rejoices.
My body also will rest secure,
because
you will not abandon me to the grave,
for
you did not let your Holy One see decay.
For Christ was not abandoned to
the grave,
nor
did his body see decay.
You raised Jesus to life,
and
over five hundred people
were
witnesses of the fact.
You exalted him to your right
hand, O Father God,
and
he received from you
the
promised Holy Spirit.
You have poured out your love
into my heart
by
the Holy Spirit, whom you gave me.
At just the right time, when I
was still powerless,
Christ
died for me.
You demonstrates your love for
me in this:
While
I was still a sinner,
Christ
died for me.
Since I have now been justified
by his blood,
how
much more shall I be saved
from
your wrath through him!
Because you have made known
to
me this path of life;
you fill me with joy in your
presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
