Psalm 53 Prayed

Psalm 53 Prayed
Praying for our ungodly culture

   O Lord, we live in such a foolish society,
            Where more and more people say in their
            hearts,
            “There is no God.”
   Without you, O Lord,
            our culture has become corrupt,
            and our ways vile.
   Without you, we can do no good.

   O God, look down from heaven
            on the people of this land.
   Look! There are none who understand,
            nor any who seek you on your terms,
   as you have revealed yourself to be
            in the Bible.
  Without the Scriptures, all have turned aside,
            we have together become corrupt;
   there is no one who does enough good
            to earn salvation, not even one.
   Without you, evildoers will never learn —
            They will devour your people as people eat
            bread
            and they will never call on you, O God.
   There they are, overwhelmed with dread,
            where there is nothing to dread.
   And overwhelmed with confidence,
            when there is something to dread.
   For those who live according to the sinful nature
            have their minds set on what that nature
            desires;
   but if they are to live in accordance with the Spirit
            they must have their minds set on what
            the Spirit desires.
   The mind of sinful humanity is death,
            but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life
            and peace;
   The sinful mind is hostile to you,
            it does not submit to your law, nor can it do so.
   Those controlled by the sinful nature
            cannot please you.
   So do not let them be controlled by the sinful
            nature
            but by the Holy Spirit.
   For if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,
            they do not belong to Christ.
   But if Christ is in them, their bodies will be dead
            because of sin,
            yet their spirit will be alive because of
            righteousness.
   And if the Holy Spirit,
            who raised Jesus from the dead
            is living in them,
   you, who raised Christ from the dead,
            will also give life to their mortal bodies
            through the Holy Spirit, who lives in them.

   O Father, it is your will is that everyone
            who looks to your Son
            and believes in him shall have eternal life,
            and Jesus will raise them up at the last day.
   You want all people to be saved
            and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
   For there is one God
            and one mediator between God and humanity,
            the man Christ Jesus,
            who gave himself as a ransom for all humanity.
   O God, unless you have mercy on them
            the bones of those who attack you will be
            scattered;
   they will be put to shame,
            for they will be despised by you,
            unless they repent.
   Oh, that salvation for the world
            would come out of your Church!
   Restore the fortunes of your people O Lord,
            let the people of God rejoice
            and be glad in you.

Psalm 53
For the director of music.
According to mahalath. A maskil of David.

1   The fool says in his heart,
            “There is no God.”
      They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
            there is no one who does good.

2   God looks down from heaven
            on the sons of men
      to see if there are any who understand,
            any who seek God.

3    Everyone has turned away,
            they have together become corrupt;
            there is no one who does good,
            not even one.

4   Will the evildoers never learn—
            those who devour my people
            as men eat bread
            and who do not call on God?
5a   There they were, overwhelmed with dread,
            where there was nothing to dread.

Rom. 8:5   Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.  6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;  7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.  8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Rom. 8:9  You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.  10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.  11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

John 6:40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
1Tim. 2:4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.  5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,  6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.

5b God scattered the bones of those who
            attacked you;
            you put them to shame, for God despised
            them.

6   Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of
            Zion!
            When God restores the fortunes of his
            people,
        let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
