Psalm 9 Prayed

Psalm 9 Prayed
Praise for the victory of Jesus

   I will praise you, O Lord Jesus, with all my heart;
            I will tell of all your wonders.
   I will be glad and rejoice in you;
            I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
   For you have promised, O Lord,
            that everyone born of God
                  overcomes the world.
   This is the victory that has overcome the world;
            even our faith.
   Who is it that overcomes the world?
            Only those who believe
                  that you are the Son of God.
   For the reason the you appeared
            was to destroy the devil’s work.
   Therefore my spiritual enemies will turn back;
            they will stumble and perish before you.
    For you have upheld my right and my cause;
            you have sat on your throne,
                  judging righteously.

   You have rebuked the nations
                  and destroyed the Wicked One;
            you have blotted out his follower’s names
                  for ever and ever.
   Endless ruin has overtaken this enemy,
            you have uprooted their cities;
            even the memory of them one day will perish.
   For as you, O Christ, drive out demons
                  by the Spirit of God,
                  and so the kingdom of God has come upon us.
   You have entered this “strong man’s” house
            and carried off his possessions,
            for you first tied up this “strong man.”

   Father God, you reign forever;
            You have established Christ's throne
                  for judgment.
   You raised him from the dead
            and seated him at Your right hand
                  in the heavenly realms,
   far above all rule and authority,
                  power and dominion,
            and every title that can be given,
   not only in the present age
                  but also in the one to come.
   And You placed all things under his feet
            and appointed him to be head over everything
   for us, the church, which is his body,
            the fullness of him
                  who fills everything in every way.
  Now fulfil your promise, O Lord,
            Let Christ judge the world in righteousness;
            let him govern the peoples with justice.

  O Lord Jesus, be a refuge for the oppressed,
            a stronghold in times of trouble.
   Let them know your name so they will trust in you,
            for you, Lord Jesus,
                  have never forsaken those who seek you.

   Sing praises to the Lord Jesus,
                  enthroned in Zion,
            the heavenly Jerusalem,
                  the city of the living God.
   Proclaim among the nations
                  what he has done.
   For he who avenges blood remembers;
            he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.

   O Lord Jesus, see how my spiritual enemies
                  persecute me!
   Have mercy and lift me up
                  from the gates of death,
            for “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
   Let me rejoice, singing;
            “Where, O death, is your victory?
            Where, O death, is your sting?”
   The sting of death is sin,
            and the power of sin is the law.
   But thanks be to God!
            You give us the victory
                  through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    Therefore I will declare your praises
            in the gates of the Church
            and there rejoice in your salvation.

   O Lord, have mercy on this fallen world;
                  for the nations have fallen
                  into the pit they have dug;
   their feet are caught in the net
                  they have hidden.
   For you, O Lord, are known by your justice:
   Therefore the wicked are ensnared
                  by the work of their hands,
   The wicked return to the grave;
            all the nations that forget God,
   But have mercy on them, for we were no different.
                  We were dead in our transgressions and sins,
                  in which we used to live
   when we followed the ways of this world
                  and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air,
                  the spirit who is now at work
                  in those who are disobedient.
    All of us also lived among them at one time,
                  gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature
                  and following its desires and thoughts.
    Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.

   But you did not forget the needy,
                  nor did you let the hope
                  of the afflicted ever perish.
  Because of your great love for us,
                  O God, who is rich in mercy,
  you made us alive with Christ
                  even when we were dead in transgressions;
                  it is by grace we have been saved.
  And you raised us up with Christ
                  and seated us with him
                  in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
   in order that in the coming ages
                  you might show the incomparable
                  riches of your grace,
   expressed in your kindness to us
                  in Christ Jesus.
   For it is by grace you saved us, through faith
                  and this not from ourselves,
   it is your free gift to us, O God
                  not by works, so that no one can boast.

   Arise, O Lord Jesus, let not humanity triumph;
            let the nations be judged in your presence.
   Strike them with terror, O Lord;
            let the nations know they are only human.
   For who will not fear you, O Lord,
            and bring glory to your name?
   For you alone are holy.
   May all nations come
            and worship before you,
                  for your righteous acts have been revealed.
   Let the gospel of the Kingdom
                  be preached to the whole world,
    as a testimony to all nations,
            so that the end may come.

Psalm 9
For the director of music.
To [the tune of] “The Death of the Son.”
A psalm of David.

1  I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;
            I will tell of all your wonders.
2   I will be glad and rejoice in you;
            I will sing praise to your name,
            O Most High.
1John 5:4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
1John 3:8 …The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

3   My enemies turn back;
            they stumble and perish before you.
4    For you have upheld my right and my cause;
            you have sat on your throne,
                  judging righteously.

5   You have rebuked the nations
                  and destroyed the wicked;
      you have blotted out their name
                  for ever and ever.
6    Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy,
            you have uprooted their cities;
            even the memory of them has perished.
Matt. 12:28 But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? …

7   The LORD reigns forever;
            he has established his throne
                  for judgment.
Eph. 1:20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,  21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.  22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,  23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

8   He will judge the world in righteousness;
            he will govern the peoples with justice.
9   The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
            a stronghold in times of trouble.
10  Those who know your name will trust in you,
            for you, LORD, have never forsaken
                  those who seek you.
11a  Sing praises to the LORD,
                  enthroned in Zion;
Heb. 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God.
11b  proclaim among the nations
                  what he has done.
12   For he who avenges blood remembers;
            he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
13   O LORD, see how my enemies
                  persecute me!
      Have mercy and lift me up
                  from the gates of death,
1Cor. 15:54 … “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55  “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

14   that I may declare your praises
              in the gates of the Daughter of Zion
              and there rejoice in your salvation.

15   The nations have fallen into the pit
                  they have dug;
      their feet are caught in the net
                  they have hidden.
16   The LORD is known by his justice;
                  the wicked are ensnared
       by the work of their hands.

18    But the needy will not always be forgotten,
            nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.
