Psalm 8 Prayed

Psalm 8 Prayed
Praise to the Creator

   O Lord Jesus, my Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
   You have set your glory
            above the heavens.

Yet some try to mock you in the name of science,
             and try to convince us
that you did not create the universe.
But what may be known about you
            is plain to them,
because you have made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world
            your invisible qualities—
your eternal power and divine nature—
   have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made,
so that everyone is without excuse.
But you chose the foolish things of the world
            to shame the wise;
You chose the weak things of the world
            to shame the strong.
You chose the lowly things of this world
            and the despised things—
and the things that are not—
to nullify the things that are,
so that no one may boast before you.
And so from the lips of children and infants
you have ordained praise to you as Creator
   because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

   When I consider your heavens,
            the work of your fingers,
   the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is humanity that you are mindful of us,
a mere individual that you should care for me?
The universe seems so indescribably vast,
and we are so unimaginably tiny,
how can we have any significance at all?

   Yet you have made us
a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned us with glory and honour.
   You made us ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under our feet:
   all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
   the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

   Give us a true sense
of what it is to be responsible for all this,
and give us wisdom, grace and self-restraint
to use all this for your glory, not ours.

   O Lord Jesus, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8
For the director of music. According to gittith.
A psalm of David.

1   O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
      You have set your glory
            above the heavens.

Rom. 1:19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.  20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
1 Cor. 1:27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.  28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,  29 so that no one may boast before him.

2   From the lips of children and infants
            you have ordained praise
     because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3   When I consider your heavens,
            the work of your fingers,
     the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4   what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

5   You made him a little lower
            than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honour.
6   You made him ruler over the works
            of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:
7    all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
8   the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9   O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
