Psalm 48 Prayed

Psalm 48 Prayed
Praying for the Church

   Great are you, Lord Jesus, and most worthy of
                  praise,
   in the city of our God, your holy mountain.
            For you have brought us to Mount Zion,
                  the heavenly Jerusalem,
            the city of the living God.
   You brought us to thousands upon thousands
                  of angels in joyful assembly,
            to the Church of the firstborn,
            whose names are written in heaven.
   You brought us to God, the judge of all men,
            to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,
         to yourself, the mediator of a new covenant,
   May your Church be beautiful in its loftiness,
            the joy of the whole earth.

   May she grow to the utmost heights of the
                  mountains,
            the city of Jesus, the Great King.
   O God, dwell in our citadels;
            and show yourself to be our fortress.
   When the governments of earth join forces,
            when they advanced together to oppress your
                  people,
    may they see us and be astounded;
            let them flee in terror.
   May trembling seize them,
            pain like that of a woman in labour.
   Demonstrate the power of your Holy Spirit,
            break apart their abuse of power.
   For you are able to destroy their schemes
            like ships of Tarshish
            shattered by an east wind.

   As we have heard,
            so have we seen
   in the Church of the Lord Almighty,
            in the city of our God:
   Only you, O God,
            can make us secure forever.

   O God, we are your temple
            and the Holy Spirit lives in us.
   If anyone destroys your temple,
            you, O God, can destroy them;
   for your temple is sacred,
            and we are that temple.
   Within your temple, O God,
            we meditate on your unfailing love.
    Like your name, O God,
            your praise reaches to the ends of the earth;
            your right hand is filled with righteousness.
   May your Church rejoice,
            let the congregations of Jesus be glad,
            because of your judgments;
            because of the beauty of your Word.

   Lord Jesus, walk about your Church,
            go around her, count her towers,
   consider well her ramparts,
            view her citadels,
   Remind us again of all the strength
            which you have equipped us with,
            that we may tell of them to the next generation.
   For you, Lord Jesus, are our God for ever and ever;
            be our guide even to the end.

Psalm 48
A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah.

1   Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise,
            in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
Heb. 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,  23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,  24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant,

2   It is beautiful in its loftiness,
            the joy of the whole earth.

     Like the utmost heights of Zaphon is
           Mount Zion,
            the city of the Great King.
3   God is in her citadels;
            he has shown himself to be her fortress.
4   When the kings joined forces,
            when they advanced together,
5   they saw [her] and were astounded;
            they fled in terror.
6   Trembling seized them there,
            pain like that of a woman in labour.
7    You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish
            shattered by an east wind.
8  As we have heard,
            so have we seen
      in the city of the LORD Almighty,
            in the city of our God:
            God makes her secure forever.                   Selah

1Cor. 3:16  Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?  17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
9   Within your temple, O God,
            we meditate on your unfailing love.
10  Like your name, O God,
            your praise reaches to the ends of
                  the earth;
            your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11  Mount Zion rejoices,
            the villages of Judah are glad
            because of your judgments.

12  Walk about Zion, go around her,
            count her towers,
13  consider well her ramparts,
            view her citadels,
      that you may tell of them to the next
                  generation.
14  For this God is our God for ever and ever;
               he will be our guide even to the end.
