Psalm 83 Prayed

Psalm 83 Prayed
Praying against false religions

   O God, do not keep silent;
            be not quiet, O Jesus my God, be not still.
   See how your spiritual enemies are astir,
            how your foes rear their heads.
   With cunning they conspire against your people;
            they plot against those you cherish.
   “Come,” they say, “let us destroy the Church as an
            institution,
            that the name ‘Christian’ be remembered no
            more.”

   With one mind they plot together;
            they form an alliance against you—
   the militant secularists and atheists,
            the radical Islamists and the cynics,
   The New Agers, the multi-faithers;
            and all of those who say,
  “Enter through the broad gate,
            and follow the broad road that leads to God.”
   Even some Christians have joined them,
            to lend strength to those who offer false hope.
   Help us to watch out for false prophets,
            who come to us in sheep’s clothing,
   but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
            Help us to recognize them by their fruits.

   Do to these ideas as you did to Midian
            in the Book of Judges,
            as you did to Sisera and Jabin
            at the river Kishon,
   who perished at Endor
            and became like refuse on the ground.
   Make their influence like Oreb and Zeeb,
            all their propaganda like Zebah and Zalmunna,
   who said, “Let us take possession
            of the pasturelands of God.”

   Make their significance like tumbleweed, O my
            God,
            like chaff before the wind.
   As fire consumes the forest
            or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
   so pursue these false beliefs with your tempest
            and nullify them with your storm.
   Cover their faces with shame
            so that people will seek your name, O Lord
            Jesus.

   May these beliefs ever be ashamed and dismayed;
            may they perish in disgrace.
   But as your servants, O Lord,
            let us show them the truth by our good lives,
            by deeds done in the humility that comes from
            wisdom.
   Help us not to quarrel;
            instead, may we be kind to everyone,
            able to teach, not resentful.
   Those who oppose us,
            may we gently instruct,
   in the hope that you will grant them repentance
            leading them to a knowledge of the truth,
   May they come to their senses
            and escape from the trap of the devil,
            who has taken them captive to do his will.
   Let them know that you,
            who's name is the Lord Jesus—
            that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 83
A song. A psalm of Asaph.

1   O God, do not keep silent;
            be not quiet, O God, be not still.
2   See how your enemies are astir,
            how your foes rear their heads.
3   With cunning they conspire against your
            people;
            they plot against those you cherish.
4   “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a
            nation,
            that the name of Israel be remembered no
            more.”
5   With one mind they plot together;
            they form an alliance against you—
6   the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
            of Moab and the Hagrites,
7   Gebal, Ammon and Amalek,
            Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
Matt. 7:13  “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
8   Even Assyria has joined them
to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. Selah
Matt. 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them.
9   Do to them as you did to Midian,
            as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river
            Kishon,
10  who perished at Endor
            and became like refuse on the ground.
11  Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
            all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12  who said, “Let us take possession
            of the pasturelands of God.”
13   Make them like tumbleweed, O my God,
            like chaff before the wind.
14  As fire consumes the forest
            or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15  so pursue them with your tempest
            and terrify them with your storm.
16  Cover their faces with shame
            so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

17  May they ever be ashamed and dismayed;
            may they perish in disgrace.
James 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
2Tim. 2:24 And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.  25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,  26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

18  Let them know that you, whose name is the
            LORD—
            that you alone are the Most High over all
            the earth.
